我只要一个1024X768的分辨率就够了

还是显卡安装的问题：
我的显卡型号是：nvidia geforce 7025，关于这方面的帖子很多，不管用什么方法，我都参考过了。但都没用。

下面是具体出现的情况。关键步骤.sudo sh ***.run
然后就开始提示报错，如下：

我当然选择yes
然后接着报错

no matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the nvidia ftp site .this means that the

只有一个选项，OK，之后显示一个ERROR，直接挂掉

呵呵，预编译的内核接口与我的内核不匹配，什么提示，要我自己编译？
从安装ubuntu9.04，设置更新源，之后就不断的更新，问题不断。我就郁闷了，ubuntu为什么不把常用的软件
打包发行呢。ubuntu把声卡网卡，和其他硬件的驱动都集成了，为什么显卡驱动就没有呢。我不要什么3D效果，只求
实用，给我一个1024X768的分辨率也行啊。现在机器最高分辨率800x600，字体比蚕豆大，一个窗口占据了整个屏
幕。痛苦啊！可见，WINDOWS流行普及也是不无道理的。真后悔卸载掉了redhat...

nvidia 的显卡驱动是受限的，所以不会被包含在发行版中；像 intel 的集成显卡，驱动是开源的，所以装好 Ubuntu 就有 3D 桌面了。

楼主打开“系统管理－硬件驱动”看看。

点激活安装好显卡驱动，重启，分辨率不对也进硬件驱动看看激活了没有，N卡分辨率不对一般都是显示器没有正确认出来的

激活安装显卡驱动，开机时，就只有 input not surported了，一个窗口飘来飘去。看着心里那个火啊！
楼上朋友说，分辨率不对，也可以看看“硬件驱动看看激活了没”，这句没明白。如果只是简单的激活，不就是硬件激活吗？

还有，利用envyng -t安装，和激活的效果一样，不过很统一楼上的观点： “N卡分辨率不对一般都是显示器没有正确认出来的
”，我听到进系统的声音，但是就是 input not surported跟着一个黑屏。有知道怎么解决的方法。谢谢各位朋友！我急切的等待中。

这个比较麻烦的,要修改/etc/X11/xorg.conf的,你可以看看这个,如果你知道如何在命令行下面编辑的话

我在折腾debian时有点心得，希望有用：
2）修改/etc/X11/xorg.conf文件
用于不需要特效，且分辨率只有800x600不能改变的情况
在Section “monitor”
Identifier “****” 此项默认
VendorName “ Unknow” 此项随便
ModelName “ Unknow” 此项随便
HorizSync "行频（水平扫描）" 根据显示器填写，重要
VertRefresh "场频（垂直扫描）" 根据显示器填写，重要
Option “DPMS”
Modeline “1024x768@60”.…… 很重要，可计算标准参数如下：
终端输入： gtf 1024 768 60
得到 # 1024x768 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 47.70 kHz; pclk: 64.11 MHz
Modeline "1024x768_60.00" 64.11 1024 1080 1184 1344 768 769 772 795 -HSync +Vsync
将结果中的 modeline 填入就ok了,如果拷贝粘贴时，千万要注意那个双引号是引文状态下的双引号。
3）登录界面分辨率
Section “Screen”
…………....
SubSection “Display”
Virtual 1024 768
Modes “1024x768”
EndSubSection

这样，基本可以用你想用的分辨率了。

楼上的朋友,如果我选择NO,也会照样报错,所以那种安装官方驱动的方法我是用不了了.

楼主，激活后，还要在纯终端下运行nvidia-xconfig生成一个新的xorg.conf文件，在/etc/X11/目录下。然后你再按照楼上上兄弟的提示修改这个文件，加入你自已想要的分辨率就行了。
Ubuntu系统，经常会碰到分辨率不能合理设置的问题，我碰到过几次，论坛的兄弟也要不少碰到过。Xserver还是不够成熟啊。

官方驱动有很多，你可以换者试试，主要是驱动版本支持你的显卡，同时你的内核版本支持该驱动。

给你个官方32位显卡驱动的多个版本的链接，偶用的就是180.60而不是最新的185.18.14ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/

你安装*.run的步骤错了,要删除受限制模块才可以装的,然后那个应该选no的你选错了,总之,如果你不懂折腾,先好好看帖子,如果喜欢折腾,看看什么安装n卡驱动先,有几种方法的

接受楼上的建议，不过，我不喜欢折腾；虽然不熟悉ubuntu,但是做事和解决问题的态度，还是会有的。毕竟编程经历也有几年了。有几种安装方法，我试过：
1.受限驱动，不行；
2.envyng -t安装方法，试过了，也不行；
3.当然首先要卸载以前安装的驱动，然后 sh ***.run的方法安装，我选择NO，提示要编译kernel inteface，但下一步ERROR。/var/log/nvidis-installer.log的内容如下：
