安装过程很简单，直接sudo ./setup.sh就可以了
需要切换到英文环境，否则会有乱码。
需关闭桌面特效，否则会出现弹出的安装向导画面是空的（这个找了好久才发现，浪费了很多时间）

装完后还要把安装目录权限改一下，否则无法运行：
sudo chown -R username:usergroup /opt/ibm/lotus/notes
sudo chown -R username:usergroup /etc/lotus/notes
sudo chown -R username:usergroup /home/username/lotus/notes

我安装的IBM网站上出的deb包的安装文件提示缺少libicu36包，不过安装的是for 7.10的i386的。IBM网站还没有推出for 8.04的。

So you installed Lotus Notes 8.0.1 on Ubuntu Linux and nothing seems to works? One test you can do is to start Lotus Notes via the command line using root privileges. If the splash screen then starts and then tell you that Notes can not be run as root then the issue may be permission's on the file system.

Here is an example of how to start Notes from the command line:

ubuntu: cd /usr/bin
ubuntu: sudo -i
ubuntu: ibm-notes8 (this is a symlink to > /opt/ibm/lotus/notes/framework/rcp/richclient.sh)



You will also notice ibm-notes8-zap. Guess what that does!

The first thing you should do is check permission's on the file system.

ls -l /opt/ibm/lotus/notes


If the permission's is anything else other than -rwxr-xr-x then you may have an issue. What I have seen is that the installer sets the Group permission's to --- and that will not work.

To set the permission's correctly issue the following:

chmod -R 755 /opt/ibm/lotus/notes
chmod -R 755 /etc/lotus/notes
chmod -R 755 /home/username/lotus/notes



FYI - This is how permission's work:

An example of ls -l:
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 2007-12-07 13:37 My Directory (d = directory l = link)
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 342 2008-02-22 11:27 notesrc

The permission's are divided into 3 groups example above, 123 are Owner permission's, 456 are Group permission's and 789 are other user permission's.

Permission's are set using the following values
| 0 | --- |
| 1 | --x |
| 2 | -w- |
| 3 | -wx |
| 4 | r-- |
| 5 | r-x |
| 6 | rw- |
| 7 | rwx |
So using the table above chmod 761 notesrc would set the file permission's to:
-rwxrw---x owner group notesrc
While chmod 755 would set it to:
-rwxr-xr-x owner group notesrc



To set or reset the file owner and group you would need to use chown.

chown -R -h owner:group
chown -R -h notes:notes /opt/ibm/lotus
chown -R -h notes:notes /local/notesdata


If this does not work you can start the Notes startup script in verbose mode. Do the following:

cd /opt/ibm/lotus/notes/framework/rcp
sh -x richclient.sh (This provides output)
sh -x -v richclient.sh (This provides output and dumps the script file)



Not every distribution will work with Lotus Notes 8.x but its worth a try. My experience has been that Gnome distro's work and KDE distro's does not work out the box. I will publish more soon.

Top Tip! Notes 8 for Linux does not include Designer or Administrator. However, all is not lost. Simply install the Windows Notes 8 basic with Designer and Administrator client in WINE. It works really well but of course does not give you the eclipse framework.

这个问题以文本方式打开你的setup.sh
在前面加入这么一行 export AWT_TOOLKIT=MToolkit
done

奇怪， 我第一次安装成功， 第二次就不行了。说什么不能在图形界面下安装， 让我用 － concole或者－silent

可是用了也没用。
