INTRODUCTION

This is Z600 CUPS Printer Driver version 1.0-1, the first stable

release. Z600 CUPS Printer Driver is a printer driver that may be

used with most common UNIX print spooling systems, including CUPS,

lpr, LPRng, or others. This driver provide high quality printing

for Linux and UNIX systems and can be used for many of the most

demanding printing tasks.



Z600 CUPS Printer Driver was built using the Lexmark Linux Printer

Driver Developer's Kit (LLPDDK) binaries. Please check out out website

at http://support.lexmark.com/en/ldk/index.htm for more details.



Since this is the initial release, backward compatibility is not

yet still an issue.

Z600 CUPS Printer Driver includes the following files:

In general, to install Z600 CUPS Printer Driver, you run

the following command:

- sh z600cups-1.0-1.tar.gz.sh



Note: This printer driver was tested and verified in Red Hat 9.0.





FAQ

===



1) Q: How can we print bitmap files?

A: To print bitmap files (bmp), it is necessary to include the

following line in the file /etc/cups/mime.convs:

"image/x-bitmap application/vnd.cups-raster 100 imagetoraster"

Restart the CUPS daemon for changes to take effect.



2) Q: What does the "Inkset" option mean?

A: The "Inkset" option is used to emulate the existence of the

cartridges installed in the printer device. If it set to CMYK

or CMY or K, then the printer driver will assume that the printer

device has "both cartridges installed", or "only color cartridge

is installed" or "only black cartridge is installed" respectively.



We need to explicitly change the inkset accordingly when one of the cartridges

is physically removed from the printer before printing. The user can do this

either in the command line through the



lpoptions command (lpoption -o Inkset=CMY or lpoption -o Inkset=K)



or by setting the options in the CUPS web server.燭he user can further bypass

these settings through the applications own print settings and changing the inkset

appropriately.



3) Q: How do we recover or cancel the print job during paper out?

A: To recover the print job, restart the printer device (turn off

then turn on again) and the CUPS server (either by "service cups

restart" or "/etc/init.d/cups restart"). To cancel the print job

remove it manually either by using lprm or cancel commands.
