I'm chinese but i think you maybe ask why don't i type the chinese characters!
i don't wanna speak english but the fucking "SCIM" input program was killed by me(scim always consumed 600-700M ram on my notebook!).
and i almost tried all the way to solve the 'no sound' problem on ubuntu which use the method of the forums.
at the first time i installed the version of 7.04,no sound.so i try to make and installed the latest version of ALSA.it still doesn't work.
so i reinstalled the ubuntu 7.10,I wish i can hear the sound on the latest version,but
no sound again.
and i did the same thing(install the latest version of ALSA),it's useless.
so disppointed i am now.
i really love ubuntu though i just used it 3 days,
my notebook model is 'HP3213',if you have the same problem but you already solved it please tell the way to work it.

太感谢你了,现在可以输入中文了,而且非常好用阿!
我每次一进系统,scim就会占用700多M的内存,只好每次kill掉它了,我是个刚来的菜鸟,
还不知道怎么把scim那东西卸载掉,或者不开机启动也可以

ubuntu is very good ,but it's a little bit difficult to beginner !!

所以我才会这么痛苦,我真的装了好多遍系统,然后从早上6点到凌晨3点都在弄它,不过我已经处在无声世界已经快一周了
我一定要把声音弄出来.
10月份mac的osx系统会刷新了,也想试试呵!

到现在我已经傻笑了一个多小时了,终于有声音了,真想哭阿,好像中了福利彩票那么开心
还在傻笑中...
想知道什么原因吗?那些还没有声音的战友们
用了1周多ubuntu,装了n遍,7<n<10,一直没有声音
但是一直都没舍弃,今天12点多起床,把添加删除程序中把所有关于alsa的全删,重启!
接着就是郁闷的一幕,进不了视窗系统了,只能进纯字符界面那东西,
我刚用linux一周,这可玩死我了,只好凭着记忆硬是又把alsa1.0.15rc3给装上了,重启!
tmd还是进步去,死心,重装!
当然进去了,结果一装!有声音了

厄运再一次降临到我头上,有没声音了!!
也不知道是不是这个原因,我先按了fn+F6,然后有了屏保,我想退出就移动了鼠标,结果一直卡死了我就只好按电源键强制关机,一重新启动,居然又没声音了.
