[问题]如何重装显卡驱动？

我的显卡为ATI Radeon Xpress 1250,装好Ubuntu7.10的时候，装了fglrx驱动，后来安装了官方的ati-driver-installer-7-11-x86.x86_64.run，在程序里面多了个ATI Catalyst Control Center，打开之后，也能正确显示显卡型号。在终端输入glxgears能出现齿轮。
用了一段时间，装了一些软件，期间也改过xorg.conf这个文件，今天突然发现ATI Catalyst Control Center打不开了，提示截图中的错误。
在终端输入：fglrxinfo
显示：

输入：glxinfo | grep render
显示：

输入：glxgears后，齿轮没出来，X－Window直接重启了。用过sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg之类的命令重新配置驱动，但还是原样。
有哪位高手知道这是怎么回事？如果是驱动坏了的话，怎样才重装一下显卡驱动？

另外我还装了XGL，3D桌面可以正常开启

重装ati-driver-installer-7-11-x86.x86_64.run时候会提示：Extraction failed。然后就无法安装下去了

把它卸掉在装不行吗？
或者用那个啥，受限的驱动管理

现在用的就是受限驱动。
卸载？卸载哪个？ATI Control Center吗？找不到卸载的地方啊
卸载fglrx，这个倒没试过，我怕卸载后连X-Window都进不去了
