进不了桌面了，貌似NVIDIA kernel module挂掉了，需要重装？

有一段时间没上了。结果今天进系统停在dos状态了。
满屏的英文。大概了解一下看到：
Failed to start the X server（Your graphical interface）
然后问是否看X server output to diaguose the problem
然后给个网站 http://wiki.x.org/wiki/GitPage
.....
FATAl：Could not open‘/lib/modules/2.6.24-generic/volatile/nvidia.ko
No such file or directory
(EE)NVIDIA（0）：Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module 1
(EE)NVIDIA（0）：***Aborting***
(EE)Screen(s) found ,but none have a usable configuration
Fatal server error
No screen found

看起来应该是Xwindows启动出了问题，不知道该如何解决呢？

在ubuntu启动菜单选择进修复模式修复X
