Ah Cave Story. I remember starting to play it around this time 2 - 3 years ago. I had the hardest time trying to beat the secret last boss to get the Special ending.

Yeah man. I messed up the first time through and had to restart (I saved after getting the WORST ending smiley ), so I figured I would try to do it the hard way.
When they say hard, they ain't kiddin. It took me like 10 tries just to get to the end boss, much less fight the guy. After like 5 tries on the final boss (who knows how many time to get there), I finally beat it.
Have to admit, though, it is very satisfying to beat that jerk smiley

When I first played I couldn't beat it so I quit playing it for a year, then a year later I came back and ripped (Ballos or whatever his name was.) a new one. Hard fight, but I enjoyed the ending watching him finally be defeated.

Ahh, yes, Cave Story, Dokutsu Monogatari, as some call it. I abso-freakin'- lutely love this game. I managed to find several secrets in the game. Including several of the funny...useless items! Curly... I never knew she needed to change clothing... Really though, this game IS excellant. Especially if you can get the Nightmare gun to not suck (Not TOO terribly hard...just painful sometimes). What I want to know is, that if you didn't get the rocket launcher, or any of the rockets, after you you fight Balrog for the last time in the Labrynth, you can't open the box. It is "Sealed by a mysterious force" or something to that effect. I've not been able to open it ever. Also...who knew bookcases had teleportation properties?
Ballos was definatly a pain-in-the-ass fight. Then again, that level is called Hell for a reason... That timer I got makes me rush every time I try to go through the level. It's agitating. Though it's fun to see Curly with the Nightmare. I'm damn glad for it too, Hell does require that back up...
Here until this place truly dies.

I can't remember...I managed to open it once...Think it's rockets actually (Probably wrong.) I'd have to check.
Think there's also a few editors out there to take a hack at the game data.

Hmm.. Are you talking about the timer? If so, the timer allowed you to do speed runs in the final part on the hard path (Hell). If not, I have no idea smiley

The game has excellent platforming and gameplay elements, and in my opinion, beats out most Metroid and Castlevania games (at least, the 2D ones. 3D is a different category in my eyes). The weaponry, level system, difficulty... I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying this game.
Still as dumb as ever.

This is a really old bump, but I finally remembered how to open that Box (If somebody is interested and can verify if I'm wrong or right).
If I remember correctly, if you ignore the rockets the whole game and then open that box, it gives you 99 Rockets. I can't remember if that was the secret to it, but I'm pretty sure.

Not that it really makes much of a difference, since rockets aren't that good of a weapon.
Still as dumb as ever.

I disagree, I used them quite a bit, especially against the Doctor, killed 'im in seconds.
What's the secret, Travis?

I'm almost positive on this, but I haven't had a chance to verify yet. I remember it being something along the lines of that.

Sorry for double posting:
Around April I'll be running through this game again. I'll see if not grabbing Rockets does the trick.
Where's the location of the box I need to find again?
