IBM240Z笔记本安装Ubuntu5.04成功,但是进入GNOME图形界面只有640X480的分辨率,怎么都改不了,我把窗口管理器改成FVWM是可以上到1024X768的,我在网上查到很多人都出现这种情况,说5.04的XORG在安装时不能正确的写入
HorizSync 28-49
VertRefresh 43-72
这两个参数,我就把我的240Z在SARGE下运行正确的XORG.CONF拷贝到5.04中,但还是不行,关键还是上面那两行,我把HORIZSYNC注释掉,可以640480的分辨率进入,但是只要有HORIZSYNC就连640都进不去了,我曾经改成功过在输入用户名和密码的时候是1024的,但是进入GNOME后又还是640了,气得我抓狂...
我怀疑是不是GNOME有什么地方要设置,640进去GNOME后在系统-屏幕分辨率里面只能看到640的选项,其他什么都没有,唉....

我上面已经说了,进入GNOME后系统-屏幕分辨率那里只有640*480的选项:"640进去GNOME后在系统-屏幕分辨率里面只能看到640的选项,其他什么都没有",即使我在XORG.CONF中还配置了1024*768,800*600等分辨率的MODE也不起作用,有你说的那么简单就好了,我也不用昨天整到3点多了...我把那XORG.CONF改了无数次,在FVWM和GNOME中也切换了无数次....都不行,看网上外国的贴子中讨论这个问题的还比较多,不过也没提出什么解决办法,只有篇提到H,VSYNC那两个参数的还有点用
然后按网上查到的资料执行下面的命令
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg重新配置生成的XORG和上面一样,失败,
xresprobe siliconmotion (我的显卡驱动)出现的配置是1024*768的,屏幕是LCD的
然后运行 gtf 1024 768 60 出现的MODELINE行也加进XORG.CONF中了,也不行,然后运行 xvidtune 来调节也不行,本来在GNOME中就是640的了,升不上去,执行xrandr 列出的也只有640,不象在SARGE下还列出配置好的800,640,1024等分辨率,然后运行xorgconfig在字符界面下配置也不成功,想原来在REDHAT下这是终极手段了,一般都成功的,但是这次也失败咯...

你的显卡真没有见过，加一下显存参数试试？或者将色彩深度改为16？

已经弄好了，谢谢大家的回复，解决方法就是那两个参数HorizSync 28-49 VertRefresh 43-72的问题，设置对了就好了
HorizSync 30-50
VertRefresh 53-60
关键是我在做dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg时在最后配制显示器的时候选了ADVANCE，并且在配置HorizSync的时候发现屏幕上提示信息说明HorizSync低于30的是错误的，但我发现给出的缺省最小值确是28,马上改，然后就成功咯。。。。 ：）

我的240Z运行SARGE或者Hoary都很正常阿，无光软也不能从光软起动很是锻炼了我，什么虚拟软盘，网卡PXE，RPL，硬盘，网络启动安装我都做过都成功了，声卡，显卡都能认出来，不过SARGE下声卡配置麻烦些，我是编译内核后才正常的，HOary 就很好，打上最新的补丁就认出来了，播放视频也很流畅，UBUNTU确实很不错，易用性很好，我都准备用HOARY来正常工作，SARGE来乱搞，学习LINUX了，呵呵。。。最大的可惜就是我的240Z内存不能加大，只能上到196,实在是太可惜了，还好我的是2409-81J高配的，1024×768,内置网卡的，我给她配置了块三星的60G硬盘用得也很顺畅，

大爱lz，我整了一天，终于。。。。。。
什么y460n闪屏，什么装bumblebee，什么修该xorg.conf,
最后，把bumblebee卸载了，nvidia的驱动也卸载，重新改xorg.conf。
xrandr：
