[问题]打算将服务器迁移到ubuntu

最近，研三的一批学长就要走了，我稀里糊涂地成了实验室的服务器管理员。同学纷纷向我抱怨现在的服务器不稳定，似乎重装成了必然的事情。正好，原来的服务器是fedora的，但是我一直习惯于使用ubuntu，所以想将服务器迁移到ubuntu平台上，一来更新升级方便快速，二来想通过熟悉ubuntu的系统管理，积累一些debian的服务器管理方面的知识。应该说，这个对我即是一个挑战也是一个机遇。
万事开头难，也要谨慎。所以我计划在寒假阶段将服务器迁移，这样如果出点问题，造成的影响应该是最小的。所以有2个月的时间让我去慢慢准备。

假设好服务器，今后的主要用途有以下几个方面：
1。ftp服务器，需要id和ip绑定的功能
2。vpn服务器，这样大家都能在寝室远程桌面了，很爽
3。程序开发的服务器们，包括：
cvs服务器
http服务器
tomcat或者jboss服务器
oracle服务器(可能吧，估计不会装)
4。计划中还有需要的额外服务：
远程登录，允许用户先通过vpn连进来，然后远程登录服务器，使用需要的软件，比如eclipse等等

我的计划是选用ubuntu的server安装，但是之前我使用ubuntu都是用desktop安装，没有用过server选项，心中有点缺乏自信，毕竟我接触linux才几个月。
下面是我担心的一些问题：
1。双网卡能否正确识别并且使用，能否ipforward，让别人共享上网
2。安全性方面的问题，比如需要使用什么防火墙的软件，ssh等等
3。server安装的步骤不熟悉
4。vpn服务器没有架设的经验
5。ftp服务器只有很简单的假设经验，没什么id ip这么复杂的经历
6。不知道能不能让别人远程登录，真正实现多用户多任务

想过修改locale为gbk

你不是使用Ubuntu作服务器嘛，从Ubuntu传到windows，使用gftp就好了，源里有打补丁的gftp,设置一下远程字符集就好。
