Help: SCIM caused machine freeze. (I have read the posts :)

Hi There,

I can now only write English as SCIM caused entire system instability I have to remove it. While I remove SCIM I have also removed Chinese support, although I can now still read Chinese...

My questions are:

1. Beside SCIM, what options I have to enable Chinese input? FCTIX? Anything else?

2. If I enable Chinese support and plan to install FCTIX later, can I NOT install SCIM? Or when I choose Chinese support, Ubuntu will automatically install SCIM?

Sorry, but my question is to AVOID install SCIM while I reinstall Chinese support... is that possibe?
