Help on SCIM under Xubuntu English Locale

Using Xubuntu with English Locale, just can't get SCIM work! Need help!

Cannot activate SCIM by pressing Ctrl+Space.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, thanks for the instructions before...i ve tried to run SCIM in terminal and it was started... however the Chinese input support wasn't turned on with it although i m sure i hv the associated package installed... and i don't know how to "add" that LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.UTF-8.

Sorry i m totally a beginer of linux.

and one more question... if it can only be activated in terminal, what kind of configuration shall i do to make sure it runs each start-up?
