［新手］ubuntu 9.10 karmic应该如何选择安装光盘镜像？

去ubuntu官方网站的话，用浏览器看，下载页面非常智能化地帮你选择你需要的32位或者64位版本的iso镜像。方便你安装刻盘。点点鼠标就行了。
但是，有的时候国内的ftp更快，比如sohu的。但是我在他们的ftp或者网站mirror镜像列表里。
找到的都是名字里带i686，i386，amd64字样的各种镜像。
“我怎么知道我的系统架构是不是适合那个镜像呢？”
我在fedora12的官方安装指南书中看到这样的内容：
Processor manufacturer and model 处理器厂商与型号
Intel (except Atom 230, Atom 330, Core 2 Duo, Centrino Core2 Duo, and recent vintage Xeon);
因特尔公司除了atom 230，atom 330，酷睿2，迅驰酷睿2，以及最近的vintage xeon（至强），以外的处理器；
AMD (except Athlon 64, Athlon x2, Sempron 64, and Opteron);
超微处理器，除了速龙64，速龙x2，闪龙64，和皓龙处理器，以外的处理器；
VIA C3, C7
威盛c3，c7.

当然这都是fedora的分类。但是我不知道ubuntu怎么分的。
而且fedora12的这个架构分类分别方法也有明显的缺陷。
比如你去中关村在线的cpu频道。cpu.zol.com.cn
你会看到流行的cpu。英特尔的都是奔腾双核。酷睿i3，i5，i7.
超微的则是羿龙II代的x2，x4和速龙II代的x2，x3，x4.
这些都使用那个linux架构的操作系统？？？
如果这个问题不解决。
那我应该如何下载安装镜像？？通通去装i386的或者i686的？
