最简单的修改方法（以7.10改为8.04为例，可供参考）：
可以用gedit： 搜索---替换
将gutsy改为hardy即可， 很方便，用不着一一手动修改
"Get the updates before they're in -updates!"
I do not recommend that users run with -proposed on their production
machines. I do recommend that we continue to make it possible and
convenient for users to choose to run -proposed where they are willing and
able.
Just recently, I told somebody on IRC to try out the new libgksu version
in -proposed, as he suffered from one of the bugs it supposedly fixes.
In the discussion that followed, most of us agreed that one shouldn't
use -proposed on a PC that's important to work & keep working (e.g. you
realy need it for school/work). But we also agreed that testing
packages in -proposed makes Ubuntu better.
The main reason why I don't like to tell people to enable the -proposed
repository is that that way they will "automaticly" get *all* packages
in -proposed, including some where they might not know how to recover
from bugs (e.g. the kernel or Xorg or main system libraries).
If they are experienced enough I tell them to enable it, install the
package(s) they want and then disable it again, but for really
inexperienced users this is too complicated.
So, providing a special (virtual?) repository that only makes available
those packages that might help to fix a bug would be really great...

-security offers patches for security vulnerabilities in Ubuntu packages. They are managed by the Ubuntu Security Team and are designed to change the behavior of the package as little as possible -- in fact, the minimum required to resolve the security problem. As a result, they tend to be very low-risk to apply and all users are urged to apply security updates.
-updates offers patches for serious bugs in Ubuntu packaging that do not affect the security of the system. More directly, serious bugs are bugs that can directly cause loss of user data or represent a severe deviance from expected behavior. These updates are held up to similarly strict quality assurance as -security, in that the patches must be the minimum amount of change required to fix the bug. The fixes must be documented and verified by QA testers before they are accepted. These should also be low-risk to breakage and users are recommended to install them as a part of a regular update, or pick updates to bugs that affect them.
-proposed is the testing area for -updates. A number of people must give positive feedback on these packages before they are allowed into -updates. This repository is recommend to ONLY interested in helping to test updates and provide feedback. Since they are in effect testing updates, there is a higher chance of defective updates in this repository.

用什么版本的ubuntu ,就用什么版本的源，没把握不要随便混用源或随便改源跨版升级
It appears that the source o matic site has gone offline, and the link below is dead. I had a poke around in the forums and this was raised about a week ago in this post, it seems like its just disappeared
I’ve emailed Ubuntu-nl, to see what the story is and if they’ll have it online anytime soon. If not, I’ve asked them for the source code, so that I can create a replacement on my site, as its an invaluable application. If anyone is looking to help me out, leave a comment, we can’t see this thing just disappear!

I got an email back from Ubuntu nl, here’s what they said;
Why do you still use the source-o-matic? The default repositories
are fine and work properly. At the moment the source-o-matic has been removed
and we can not say if it is going to be available again in the future.

It is strongly recommended to do a fresh install with the new release. Despite the great effort from the Ubuntu development team on the upgrades testing, there maybe specific customizations or installed packages that can partially break the upgrade process.
Fresh installs are much easier to perform if the data (/home) and the OS are not on the same partition, if the installation was done into a single partition, it is recommended to split it (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/separatehome). Backup is strongly recommended if you are going to perform partition changes.
If you don't have a separate home and still want to perform a fresh install, you must backup your data to an external media or to another disk, reinstall the system creating the recommended partitions and then restoring the data from your backup.
If you can not perform a fresh install and will need to do a distribution upgrade it is recommended that you remove all getdeb packages prior to the upgrade, you can remove all the getdeb packages following the procedure at http://www.getdeb.net/docs/uninstall.pdf .
