first better upgrade your ram. i am using 1.5G ram...
second when you're loading U in Vm, better use iso file in VM but not install CD.
That's my experience, you can try.

在我这里512内存，vbox windows xp sp2 ， office 2003 supper pi 和真实的xp没什么两样
