help!can't input chinese with fcitx

I use the ubuntu installation CD and install the system in 'server'
mode. After that I installed the 'kde-core' package, and I follow the instruction about chinese input method on the ubuntu .org.cn web page. But I still can't input Chinese with 'ctrl +space'.Maybe the instruction is only for gnome.Could someone please tell me how to input chinese in kde environment?
